Case 1
Wall’s Ice Cream in Malaysia is Halal •In Malaysia, the sources Wall’s ice cream is from Indonesia, Thailand and China. Malaysia does not import sources from United Kingdom (UK) or other countries in Europe.

•All Wall’s range of products in Malaysia are halal certified and meets the requirement of the Muslim community. The emulsifier E471 used in the ice cream is derived from palm oil. Wall’s Halal certifications are obtained from Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM),The
Central Islamic Committee of Thailand (TCICOT), Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI)and China Islamic Association (CIA).

Case 2
Emulsifier in Wall’s Mini Poppers is Halal •Some consumers said that a product of Wall’s Mini
Poppers, contains E471, an ingredient which is said to be derived from a non-halal source. Malaysia has clarify that all Wall’s range of products in Malaysia are halal
certified and meets the requirement of the Muslim community.

•E471 is a code given to mono and diglycerides, a group of emulsifiers which can be derived from animal or plant sources. From the code itself, it should not be concluded that E471 is a non-halal ingredient without looking at the origin.

•Wall’s Mini Poppers has receivedhalal certification from the China Islamic Association (CIA), which is a JAKIM-accredited Islamic body. As with all of other Wall’s Malaysia ice cream products, Wall’s Mini Poppers uses only plant-based emulsifiers.

Case 3
Cadbury’s Chocolate •There are some products of cadbury chocolate contain E471. The consumer confused about the status of these products whether it is halal or not.

•According to JAKIM, every product manufactured from Cadbury Malaysia Company is using the halal resources. The E471 used as ingredient in the cadbury chocolate is
from plant-based and it is halal.

•Milk chocolate with a caramel center. •Ingredients: Milk Chocolate (Milk, Sugar, Cocoa Butter,
Cocoa Mass, Vegetable Fat, Emulsifier (E442), Flavourings), Caramel (Glucose Syrup, Hydrogenates Vegetable Oil, Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Caramelised Syrup (Sugar, Glucose Syrup, Flavouring, Dried Whey Protein Concentrate, Salt, Emulsifier (E471),
Flavourings. May contain traces of nuts and soya.
